Spring Food Drive Results

Thank you Toronto!
Your generosity helped us raise $216,000 and 459,000 pounds of food. Thank you also to our friends in the media who helped us get the message out to our supporters and to Citytv for their successful full day drive on April 8th.

With the economic downturn, food banks across the city have seen a 15 - 20 % rise in visits, so we need your on-going support to continue getting food to the people who need it. If you missed your chance to give during the Spring Drive, read on to see how you can support us today.

It’s not too late for your school or organization to run a successful food or fund drive. Your help will allow Daily Bread Food Bank to get food to those who need it most, while continuing its important work in providing advocacy, conducting research and public education. Talk to your teacher today.

To find out more about how your school can get involved check out our tools for students page on HungryCity.ca

First Canadian Social Forum

LEARN,
from the experiences and insights of peers.
WITNESS,
the energy of committed, diverse Canadians working together for social change now.
ENGAGE,
in the powerful new forum for developing innovative, workable and inspiring strategies for reducing poverty in tough times.
BE STRONG. BE HEARD. BE CHANGED.

The research team at Daily Bread Food Bank is heading to Calgary, Alberta next week to attend and present at the First Canadian Social Forum. Organized by The Canadian Council on Social Development (CCSD) the forum is intended to bring together community leaders from social development, public health, environment, community safety and recreation, in an effort to target poverty. Through a variety of workshops, presentations and interactive sessions surrounding urban and rural poverty; the participants will be able to engage and learn from people all across Canada.

Daily Bread Food Bank’s research team along with four community researchers will be presenting the Deprivation Index, one of the measures of the Poverty Reduction Strategy released by November, 2008 by the Ontario Government.
